Developing A CEO Mentality

by dawnaurora on September 3, 2008

I came across this business book that really spoke to me on managing a business.  I do not know if you have heard of the alpha management style, or the beta management style.  The alpha management style ~ the masculine authoritative use of power.  The beta management style ~ the feminine, cooperative use of power.  We want to utilize both styles effectively and this book calls it the omega management style. This style of management is based on ancient wisdom.

The book covers strength of self-mastery, strength of action and strength of relationships.   Through a series of blogs I want to cover strength of self-mastery and strength of action.  I have applied many of these principles to myself and my business and they have helped me put my business into perspective and have helped me further my business goals.

Before I start I want to give you a couple of meanings.

1.  CEO- ( Chief Executive Officer)- The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. (pcmag.com)

2. Self- Mastery- oneself possesses or displays a great skill or technique.  Skill or knowledge that makes one master of a subject.  (Webster’s Dictionary)

You maybe wondering how CEO pertains to you.  This is how.  You are in command of your business (Organization) and you report (prepare/present) yourself to your customers (Chairman of the Board).

Your Statements About Yourself Are What You Become

What do you say about yourself?  Do you say you are a business owner or a hobbyist?  Do you say that you make great products or are you scared people won’t buy from you?

What you say about yourself greatly influences how you feel about yourself.  Your own statements about yourself and your business dictate your whole attitude.  People can sense how you feel about yourself.

When you start declaring the real positive truths about yourself the proof of those statements will follow.  Try regularly visualizing your success.  Visualize the well thought out plans you have for yourself and your business.  Visualize customers enjoying your products and coming back for more.    Visualize your products making a difference in your customers lives.

This may seem silly, but even athletes do this visualization technique and self talk to help them with their game.    Even when an athlete falters they will speak positive about themselves.  They will not put themselves or their game down.  That technique even applies to you and your business.  Always speak positive uplifting thoughts about you and your business even when times are difficult.

Self -Study Questions

1. What do you saying about you and your business today?

2. What is the real, positive truth about you and your business?

3. If you are going through tough times, what are some of the positive truths that you are saying about yourself?
