I am not asking this question to rock the boat by any means. I just wanted to spark consideration in how important our customers are. We all know they are very important and we want to do anything to keep them happy.
How can my customers actually be the boss of my business?
Customers help keep your business afloat. They are the ones that help pay the bills. Even though you are the boss of your business, your customers help direct your business.
The key point here is realize that they are a major player in your business and that you need to keep in touch with them. Ask for their valuable input at every turn. Ask them how your service rates, if you are keeping up with the trends and ask them if they feel there are areas in your business that need improving.
Yes, that leaves you a bit vulnerable, but realize it is not how you deal with the critisizm, but how you respond to it. Some of the advice from your customers may not line up with your business goals. That is okay. You do not need to do everything they suggest, but take it into consideration.
Keeping in touch with the customers you serve with help make your business path clear. They will let you know what the trends are for the area and how they respond to new ideas. They may help you prevent from making a large $ mistake.
Do I do all this?
I actually asked for feedback this year. I had never done this before. I was nervous at first because I did not think anyone would respond.
What I found out is that my customers felt like they were part of my business and helping me out. Their feedback was priceless and the results were great. I connected with more customers who pointed me and my business in a different direction than what I would normally go.
