This project is perfect for the month of October. I thought of it on my way to pick up my youngest daughter, Ossi, from pre-k. When I wait for her to get out of class I usually start writing out blog ideas, silicone mold ideas, business ideas and now I have added this candle making project to the list.
Candle Silicone Molds
1. Pumpkin Silicone Mold
2. Crow Silicone Mold
Candle Making Items
1. Wicking~ I use the LX series for this candle
2. Candle Fragrance Oil
3. Wick Pin ( I do not put holes in my molds for the wick)
4. Liquid/Block Dye ~ Pumpkin Color, Black, Brown,Honey
Candle Wax Used
1. Plain 415 Soy
2. J223 Parafin Wax (Wax is not in production anymore)
3. UV Inhibitor
*I used them in a 70 soy wax :30 parafin wax ratio These are both container waxes. You can use pillar wax
Candle Making Directions
(Please use specific safety instructions for your wax used.)
You need to know the candle making basics. I am guessing that you know these basics already.
1. Melt your candle wax amount for the entire project (around 1 lb. 7oz)
2. Add the candle fragrance oil you are going to use
* Harvesty, Pumpkiny, Appley, Candy Corn, etc.
3. Separate the amount of wax for the pumpkin silicone mold. (around 1 lb. 1oz.)
4. Add your color to the pumpkin wax. I mixed pumpkin dye and brown dye together
5. Add your black color for the crow wax. (around 1 oz. wax) I used only 4 crows for this candle making project
6. Pour pumpkin wax into pumpkin silicone mold
7. Pour crow wax into crow silicone mold
7. The rest of the wax is used for the stew. I colored mine honey color. You can use the wax that you scoop out of the pumpkin candle shell mold and add a different color to the mixture
Pumpkin Candle Making Portion
1. Allow the wax to cool until you see it cooled off 1/2 inch from the sides of the pumpkin candle silicone wall
2. Once you see the wax cool 1/2 ” from the side wall take a spoon and gently scoop out the soft wax and put it into another container. You can use it for tarts, making another crow stew candle.
~ Be careful not to damage the sides of the pumpkin wax shell wall and also not to move the silicone mold around too much because it may crack the sides wall of the candle.
3. Allow the candle to cool down entirely or you won’t be able to take it out of the mold
4. Take the pumpkin candle shell out of the silicone mold
5. Place the wick pin gently into the pumpkin candle wax shell.
6. By this time the crows should be cooled off . Take them out of the mold.
7. Take the rest of the candle wax that you did not color for the pumpkin and crows and put honey colored dye into the wax. This is the wax for the stew portion of the candle
8. Allow the wax to cool off to a clumpy state and then pour into the pumpkin candle shell
9. After you pour in the glumpy type wax then add in the crows on top. You know you poured the stew candle wax at the right temperature
10. Place the wax crows on the top of the soup wax. They should float on the top
Here is the final product. I have already burned my first primitive pumpkin candle pillar and I loved it. I am making the other ones for my relatives.
If you have any questions feel free to make any comments.
Many Blessings,
Dawn
