I have been surfing to blogosphere and came across at least 2 blogs where soapers are having trouble getting their soap out of their soap silicone molds. There are probably more of you out there.
How annoying is that to pay good money for silicone molds and you cannot use them successfully. Lets try to uncover simple and cheap solutions to using silicone molds with soap. Make these molds work better for you.
I do not have that much experience in the soap making field because I am a candle maker. I have made soaps and used my silicone molds, but I did not experience any breaking, cracking or separating of any kind.
The first blog I came across had problems with their soap splitting completely in half. The second blog I came across has used silicone molds before, but bits and pieces remained inside the mold.
I have experienced the later problem in regards to making soy tarts and candles. I encountered soy wax remnants inside the mold, complete breaking of the soy wax tart inside and also some of the soy tarts would come out looking whitish. I realize that some of these traits are normal for 100% soy wax. I did not have any of these problems when I mixed the soy and parafin wax together.
Silicone molds do dry out your natural oil based soap or wax products. So, to combat that problem I have found 2 solutions that helped me out with my soy tarts and candles.
Solutions
1. Spray a light coat of cooking oil into the silicone mold
2. Lightly grease the silicone mold design with vaseline
I feel these solutions will help out soap makers. Also, take into account the soap recipe used, the humidity, and the temperature at which you pour the soap into the mold. One last thing do not and I repeat do not use a silicone based mold release spray. Silicone sticks to silicone and the spray will ruin your molds.
If any of you have encountered the same problem leave your comment here on the subject. Also, leave a comment if you have found a solution to the problem.
