in Silicone Molds

potatopicsIn the mold making business there are so many styles and types of molds out there. Ever since I have started making molds which was 5 years ago I have been wanting to try my hand at making a 2 piece mold. In the mold making industry they are also know as book molds.

So, my first attempt was at making a whole potato. I haven’t a clue why I chose the potato. Its not a very primitive design maybe a little country.

I have taken pictures of this new mold venture.
The 2 piece mold as a whole.

I poured soap into this book mold. In this picture you see a wide mouth opening, but it funnels down into a smaller opening for soap or wax to be poured into the mold. After you pour and the wax or soap sets up you should be able to easily cut the extra soap or wax off the potato.

I used my daughters cupid scent. It smells wonderful.

Here is a video of us taking the potato soap out of the mold. I have heard of others having problems demolding with silicone and soap, but I did not encounter any here.

Watch my daughter Ossiana towards the end of the video. I did not have a clue that she was making faces.

Here is the finished product close up.
