There are a variety of ways that you can attach wicks to a silicone mold. I can think of 3 ways to attach a wick and one is using a needle to poke a hole into the end of your mold, another way is to use a wick pin, and the third is to drill a whole into the candle.
I personally use….
The wick pin.
My reason:
- Hole in your mold starts premature deterioration. Silicone is very expensive I want to do anything that will help preserve the silicone mold.
- I do not feel like drilling a hole into the candle. To much work
Here is a video on how I attach a wick to my silicone molds.
Attaching The Wick To Silicone Mold
The Wick Pin
The wick pin I use doesn’t have a base. I found those at Candles And Supplies. I haven’t tried this idea yet, but here is a cost effective way to make your own wick pick.
Cut a piece of hanger at the length that you want. Before you insert the wick pin make sure that the cut ends of the hanger are not sharp and would damage the mold.
When To Insert The Wick Pin
You can insert the wick pin before you pour the wax or after. When you place the wick pin before the wax you are able to center the pin better in the mold. When you place the wick pin after the wax cools down the wax helps keep the wick pin upright.

hi Gail,
Glad you liked the video and that it could help you. I am not fond of the drilling method. My attempts turned out bad. My candles ended up chipped, the wicks may turn out crooked etc. So, for me this was easier.
My friends now are trying to convince me to put wick holes in my molds.
I am experimenting with this to see how my silicone holds up.
It is doing pretty good so far. Holding up well and not tearing.
Blessings,
Dawn
P.S. if you have any questions for me just ask. Would love to try to answer them and it maybe done in a video
Thanks for posting this! We have been searching for a safer & eaiser way to wick without the use of drilling. My helpers are pretty young also
so this was very informative! Thanks again!
Hi ya Dawn…
Thank you so so much for taking time to make a video! Love it! That’s exactly what I am going to do …what a great idea! I have drilled my candles after they are hard to make room for the wick but I get alot of breakage. I too cannot bear the thought of putting holes into expensive silicone…once you get a hold they simply turn into tears and you end up throwing them away eventually.
Thanks you for working so hard to make us better candle makers…
Best Regards
Charlene
Here is a nice email from Charlene about the tutorial.
Thanks so much Charlene. I am greatful this will help you out. And also thank you for the encouraging words.
Many Blessings
