Candle Making With Silicone Molds Tip: Heating Your Mold

I have written about heating your silicone molds, but now I have put together a video that shows you how to prevent pesky pour lines, bubbles, and pock marks.
For myself, I may hear about a tip that someone else has used but am still apprehensive about trying the tip. When it comes to expensive silicone molds, taking the less risky route is the way to go.
Because there still may be some questions about putting non-food grade silicone into an oven I want to show you step by step how to heat your silicone molds.

Here is a quick review of the video:

  • Have your oven heated to 300 degrees. Leave the oven open when you put in your mold because of fume build up.  This is not food grade silicone
  • The thickness of the silicone wall will determine the length of time the mold stays in.  Because this silicone mold was pretty thick (3/4 inch) I left it in for 15 minutes
  • Have your wax already melted
  • Once your silicone mold is heated take it out of the oven and pour the wax in
  • The wax will take awhile to cool

Demold the wax after it cools.  You will notice a nice smooth finish.  The finish will not have any pockmarks and pour lines.

Tada!  A great finish.

Many Blessings,

Dawn
