Email List Building: Correct Use Of Freebies

What is your compelling offer when visitors sign up for your newsletter?  Do you offer contests, giveaways, the latest information on new products available, upcoming sales?

Why not give something away for free?  You might be wondering “How does giving away free stuff make me any money?”  Everyone loves to get something for nothing and with an added bonus of no strings attached.  Build an email list with freebies to gain interest for the products you are selling or promoting.

Have you heard of the term ROI or Return On Investment? It is used primarily in real estate, but it plays a huge part in your business also. You can consider your website as virtual real estate. The idea is that when you buy something you want to make sure that your investment would increase, so by the time you decide to sell you get more out of your investment than what you put in.

Giving free products, reports or services are a way to get your foot into the door with potential customers and build your list.  You want something from your visitors- their information.  This is not trickery, but an attempt to open a door to tell them about the product or service that you offer and  how  this product or service can solve a problem in their lives.  If no one  will listen, they will never know how wonderful your business is.

This  is also one way to find out WHO is interested in what you have to offer.  This will narrow down your target market and it will help curb your email freebie towards your target.  You will find people that are definitely interested in what you have to say.  Your energy will be focused on your important visitors.

Be aware that even though visitors have signed up to receive your freebie, doesn’t mean that they will automatically become a paying customer.  As much as we all wish they would open their wallets to us, some will only want the free offer.  Some visitors will get your  free offer some and soon unsubscribe from your list.  That is okay.  The ones that stick around are the ones you want anyway.

Various Types Of Freebies To Build Your Email List:

Free items can take many forms.  Before choosing an item to offer for free, consider what you will gain (or lose) if someone does or doesn’t come back later to patronize your business.  What will be your compelling offer?  When you are working to define your niche market, think about offering smaller items like special reports.

If you are a writer as well as a business person, creating a special report on your chosen topic may take you a day or two.  If you are like me, your report may take 6 months.  Even though it took me so long to put my report together it was well worth it.  Writing the report opened a door for the receiver of the free report to ask me questions and keep a relationship with me.

Since you have taken  the time to research your niche, you know what your target market is looking for.   Let us say that your niche market is lingerie and your target market is women fifty and older.  Your reseach showed that lingerie that is sexy and cute is only marketed to twenty-something or thirty something.  Leaving older women out of the demographic.  Offer a free report on choosing age appropraite lingerie to help build a targeted list of potential customers.

Think Long Term When Designing Your List Building Offer

The object here is not quick cash, but long term sales.  If you get 100 names from this one freebie, at least half may come back for another look.  It is important to note, that whatever you say in your reports you bear out in your product or on your website.  Case inpoint, if you suggest black teddies for women over fifty, they had better be in your store if that age group is your target audience.

Freebies can be downloadable or tangible products.  The main goal is to meet the needs of the visitors with something that will entice them to give you their information for your list.  From there, you can follow up with more information to build a relationship that converts that visitor to a customer.

Many Blessings,

Dawn
