You maybe wondering – how does this relate to my candle and soap business? You maybe thinking I am already in a niche. That is true. You are already in a niche, but in a candle and soap business there are smaller niches within.
Your potential customers are interested in a variety of candles and soaps. As a business owner, you want to find the potential customers that are interested in your product or service. To help you in that process , choose a niche within the candle and soap business line.
Why would you want to choose a niche within your niche?
Simply put… Choosing a niche within your niche will help you target your customers. The more targeted your niche, the more targeted your efforts are on focusing on your customers the better conversion rate for a sale.
Part of selling a product is in knowing who you are going to sell to before you go through all the hard work of putting a business together without a focus. Your business will flounder. The worst thing that could happen to your business is have a great product that no one wants.
First, do a bit of research
I know. It may feel like you are back to the ol’ grind stone. This grind stone is well worth the time and effort. You will have to hit the search engines, not the books. You would research keywords for your articles, blog posts and other areas of search engine optimization. Research is vital in narrowing down the best niche for your product.
Where do you start? Maybe you have a product and are looking for a niche. Or you have decided on a niche and you don’t have a product or service to offer. In both cases, check and make sure there is an interest on the Internet.
Here is an example. You have decided to do candles. Yes, you like candles, but there are so many varieties. So, you need to narrow it down. Maybe you would be interested in jar candles, enamel mug candles, pillars, or votives. Or you have taken an interest in primitive, country, grubby, or bath spa style. There are so many different candles out there, that to make it worth your while you would have to narrow down the field.
That last question is important because of how you market your product. If you have a special primitive candle style , the target market would be people who enjoy primitive looking candles. You wouldn’t be marketing to people who love retro or modern candles. You wouldn’t want to waste your marketing effort on the customers that want the retro or modern candles. They are not the ones who are going to buy from you.

Are there a number of primitive candle buyers out there? If so, is your product unique? Find places where primitive candle buyers hang out online, and investigate. Don’t just ask questions like a reporter or an investigator, but get involved to find out what they really want.
Use your research information to fine tune your product or service and your marketing plan for building your list. You don’t want your marketing plan to hit too general an audience or the wrong focused audience. Choose a viable niche first to help develop a successful list and increased chance of profit later.
Many Blessings,
