Hosting my own open house craft show party was a lot of fun. Besides preparing the flyer’s, getting other parties under your belt and promoting your show, there is a goal and business money making portion.
I want to break down for you my goals for the show and how I figured my cost and what I would have to make to break even. This show to me was more than breaking even. It was a great way for me to promote my candles and melts locally and get the word out about my tart website.
What was nice about this show is that I didn’t have to make too much food. The lady from Tastefully Simple had dips, chips and other yummy food. I would definitely suggest to have a vendor at your show that sells food.
Here is a break down of what I had invested:
- Grubby Snowman Tart Silicone Mold
- Pie Crust Tarts Silicone Mold
- Mitten Tart Silicone Mold
- Snowman Hat Tart Silicone Mold
- Pie Crust Silicone Mold
- 2″ Pie Tins – $25
- Shrink Wrap – $16
- Deserts & Drink – $10.00
- House With Electric – $5
- Flyer’s – $2.00
- Tarts Made (my cost) – $25.00
- Enamel Mug Candles – $30
- Paper Products – $2.00
Total= $115 and that does not include the silicone molds I used
I wanted to keep my overhead low, simple and stress free. This was my first show in 4 years, so I didn’t have a running inventory. All my products were fresh and made in 2 weeks.
I stuck to 5 scents that I had tested previously for candles and tarts for my own use and giving to friends and family. I only had 2 product lines – tarts and 16 oz. enamel mugs. I had 5 styles of tarts, which I phase down to 2 after doing so many styles with the first fragrance oil. And I had 2 styles of enamel mug designs. One was for a pumpkin pie and the other for an apple and pudding pie where I used my 4″ pie crust silicone mold.

The extras I had planned in this open house craft show party are:
- Music
- Lights
- Booth setup display
- Candle Quotes
Some of the fun events that I wish I had added to the show were:
- Door Prizes
- Drawing- where the visitors would give their names and addresses for a chance at a gift basket
- Something to remember your event
My Goals:
- Break Even
- Get my product out locally
- Have fun. Fellowship
I ended up bringing in a little under $150. The people that came were all family and one church friend. What is great is that I had all my information on the tarts and candles. Even though a majority of my products were sold to my family, I know that they are giving them away as gifts. The information on my tarts and candles will be passed on to other potential customers. It is a head start on getting my products out locally.
I really had a lot of fun putting the open house craft show party together. I am planning more to come
