How To Host An Open House Craft Show Party Pt #1

by dawnaurora on December 17, 2009

I have been planning for this craft show open house for about 3 weeks.  It was a quick decision to plan one, but with the help of my jewelry making friend we put it together.  We found another girl that sold Tastefully Simple items. So, there was a total of three vendors.  We did not have competing items.  I wouldn’t exactly say we complemented our items, but it was a lot of fun.

This is a rundown on how I put this show together.  It does help when you have someone helping you plan the open house craft show party.

In the 6 years I have been making candles, I have never thought about doing a home craft party.  I had been to Pampered Chef Parties and others and the representatives always had a presentation.  Thinking that I had to do a presentation,I chose not to throw one.

You can make your party any way you want. You do not have to mimic what someone else does.  I chose to host one myself because I am not bold enough to ask someone to host one for me and also I do not have a hostess program in place.

If you do decided to put together a hostess program the ebook  Stop Burning Time And Money In Your Candle Business goes into more detail.

How to get more parties under your belt easily:

I am planning more parties to come.  I know that I will have 2 parties between my friend and I, but why not invite more craft or home based businesses to join you.  What if you worked out a plan where each of the home based businesses that are involved with your show host a party themselves.  That means that if you have 5 other businesses doing a show with you then you will have 5 other parties lined up.

There isn’t any hassle of finding people to host a party for you and putting a hostess package together.

Where to promote your home craft show party:

Luckily, I have 3 kids in school.  I had them hand out flyer’s.  I handed out flyer’s in church, called my relatives, friends, went to local businesses with bulletin boards and posted them there.  I also stated to bring a friend.

Information to place on the flyer’s:

  • Name
  • Date
  • Place – put instructions if needed. I put up helpful road markers where people had to turn
  • Phone number
  • What products will be sold

Have you hosted a party yourself?  What did you do to get the ball rolling?  Was the experience enjoyable to you?

Many Blessings,

Dawn
