Today Is Trivia Day – All About Me

Did you download your blogging calendar?  If you haven’t downloaded your calendar download your blogging calendar here.  Well, according to this calendar today is trivia day.  It doesn’t specify what kind of trivia, so my guess it is general trivia.

What is possessing me to write a trivia post?  So, because of what today represents I am going to a trivia post about me.  Sounds a bit conceited doesn’t it?  Well, it is just fun trivia about things you may or may not know about me.

When and where you were born?

  • I was born in Elmira, NY January 4, 1973.  Yes, now you know my age ;)

Where did you grow up?

  • Troy, PA

What is your family background?

  • I am half Filipino and half German

What activities did you enjoy growing up

I loved horses.  I dreamed, breathed and smelled horses.  So, I was involved with horse and pony 4-h and also                     Rainbow Riders – Riding for the Handicapped.

I was on the softball and volleyball team in high school and  I played clarinet in our school marching band.

Did you go to college and what did you graduate with?

I went to Penn State and graduated with a B.S. degree in Dairy and Animal Science.  I wanted to first be a                                 veterinarian and also a farmer.  Since vet school took more time, I figured I could farm.  I am not completely a                   farmer, but I have chickens, cats, horses, rabbits and hopefully I will get some sheep soon.

What jobs did you have after you graduated?

I was a vet technician for awhile.  At the same time I also worked in human services.  I worked as a technician for              awhile then I moved on to working retail in a pet store.  To make the long story short as to why I went from being              a vet tech (which I loved) to a retail person at a pet store is because I got along better with the retail store.                            owner.   My job with human services quit when I started to work for the retail store.  I was actually putting in 70                hours for 8 months straight.  I was so stressed out that I developed a tick under my right eye.  It drove me nuts :)

Why didn’t you go back to work after you started having kids?

I didn’t want to go back to work.  I always had it in my mind that I wanted to be a stay at home mom.  At first I                     loved being at home, but I felt like I needed something more and at the same time be home with the kids.  That is               why having a home business worked for me.

I started making candles then after purchasing some molds I was hooked.  I enjoyed the creativity that the lady                 imprinted in each mold.  Because of her creativity, it sparked my interest in making my own.   I started selling                     candle and soap molds in 2004.

Some of your business life obstacles?

I am a true blue procrastinator : ) –  That was one of my goals to work through in 2009.  I noticed that because I                 procrastinated so much that my business never flourished the way it should.

Balancing family time and business time –  this is truly difficult.  I want to keep working and working, but I know                 deep down I cannot neglect my family.  There is such a backlash when I start putting more time into the business               and taking time away from the family.  Don’t get me wrong my husband and kids are very supportive, but I know               deep down that God doesn’t want me to place the business above Him and the family.

Staying focused – Besides my mold business I have an interest in earning money with affiliate marketing.                                Because of that interest I have to make sure that in order to get my affiliate marketing stuff done, plus orders,                      plus creating new molds, plus adding blog posts to this site and making sure I marketing every site well  I need                    to stay FOCUSED.  Every action and decision that I make each day gets me further ahead and pointed towards                      my goal.  That is why it is so important to have a goal.  I am able to get each task done because I take one day at                  a time, have a to-do list of what NEEDS to be done that day.  My to-do’s get me closer to my goal.

Prioritizing business tasks - It is an obstacle, but not as difficult to me as the other ones.  I just prioritize                                  according to my weekly or monthly goals.  What is the task that will benefit your business the most that day?                        What is the task that will take you from action to profit.

What business tasks do you work on every day?

I work on blog posts, creating new molds, interacting on our social media outlets, thinking of new mold ideas,                    ways to drive in traffic, thinking of new blog posts.

What tools do you use to help you with each of your tasks?

I read a lot of ebooks, books, anything I can get my hands on that pertains to my business. One thing I have                         learned to do is not to obtain any information unless I plan to use it right then and there.  Sometimes I go                               through a mode where I think I can use a certain piece of information down the road, but I don’t.  It just ends up                getting stored in a folder that I won’t be able to find 10 months down the road. Only get information on a as                          needed basis.

These are places where I find blog post topics.  I go into candle and craft forums and read what people are talking                about, the problems they have with their candles or websites.  I research google and find blogs pertaining to my                business.

I take blog polls like this one where I find out what kinds of molds people are wanting.  I want to make molds that               people want instead of making molds and trying to find potential customers.

Here is a little bit about me.  If you have any more questions for me put them in the comments box.  I would love to answer any for you.

Many Blessings,

Dawn
