The concept behind marketing through candle and soap sample boxes is effective. Your products end up in your target markets hands. When you are marketing correctly right to your target markets doorstep you create in return sales and repeat customers.
Isn’t that what you want your marketing efforts to turn into – sales and repeat customers?
You don’t want your energy to be wasted on dead ends. Each and every marketing effort you make should have a goal and an effect. Whether or not the marketing effort worked the effort is progress.
Yes, this is easier said than done. This is one idea I have not put into place, but I plan to test out this idea soon. I had a small taste of the effect this past week.
The kids wanted to give their teachers a gift for Christmas. Since I had gotten back into making tarts and candles, I thought that they would be the perfect teachers and staff Christmas gift. The kids were so excited to give the tarts to their teachers that they gave them early. My daughter had staff and teachers coming up to her saying they wanted to buy more. They asked her if they ordered if she could drop off the order. Of course, yeah!!
My intention with the tarts was to give them as gifts. I didn’t realize that there would be a potential sale effect.
I almost had all my ducks in a row. My information was on the tag, but my new site is not up and running. This is what my site looks like. Just a slight setback.

Now I am scrambling to get my tart blog selling site up and running. Try not to make the same mistake
What is my point from joining a sample box to giving tarts as gifts to teachers and staff?
This is my point. Apply the free sample concept of the sample box to giving away free samples to your community. Not that you would go out randomly into your town and start giving out free samples (although it may work – but it is not targeting your market effectively), but maybe when you set up at craft show you could give out samples when potential customers are browsing through your booth.
Yes – no – maybe. Why not?
You probably give away a freeby when they buy off from you, but don’t wait until they buy. Beat your potential customers to the punch. Dress up your sample and allow that special sample make their day. Some of these customers browsing through your booth maybe interested in your product, but they want to make the craft show round before purchasing. Let your nicely packaged sample tip their “buying from you scale”. Plus if they are not able to make it back to your booth the potential customer already has your information on the sample.
Be prepared to see an increase in sales.
Many Blessings,
