Your favorite swimming hole. Your favorite pair of flip flops. Your favorite summer drink.
Summer. The season when you think of lemonade, picnics, watermelon, slushies and don’t forget ice cream soda.
I love ice cream sodas. I used to make them at home with Pepsi, ice cream, cool whip and a cherry. I had one problem. I never could correctly position the distance between the ice cream scoop and soda. I would end up with a foamy mess all over the counter when I was done. Actually I should say my mom would end up with a mess.
I invite you to make your favorite ice cream soda candle.

History Behind The Ice Cream Soda
The first ever ice cream soda made was a bungle by pharmacist, Robert M. Green. See, back in 1874 pharmacists used to add a couple ounces of flavored fountain syrup, and a tablespoon of thick, sweet cream to soda water. But when Robert M. Green was ready to make this concoction he was out of cream. He ran to the nearest ice cream vendor and purchased a scoop of french vanilla ice cream. His plan was to let it melt and use it as a substitute for cream.
Well, he got to busy and just dumped the scoop into the soda water concoction. Voila! Ice cream soda. It was an instant hit. Word spread like wild fire about this new ice cream drink and his sales rose from $6/day to $600/day. Can you imagine?
I wanted to dive right into summer with this fun ice cream soda candle making project.
Materials Needed:
- Ice Cream Scoop Candle Silicone Mold
- Ice Cream Dish Candle Silicone Mold
- Blackberry Silicone Mold
- Translucent Paraffin Wax for The Ice Cream Dish
- Paraffin Candle Wax For the Ice Cream Scoop and Inside The Dish
- Wick
- Fragrance Oil (optional)
- Wick pin
- Wax sprinkles, gummy bears, gummy worms, cherries, berries
- Drill and drill bit
Directions For The Ice Cream Soda Candle
- Melt the translucent wax and pour it into the ice cream dish mold. I don’t color the ice cream dish
- When the ice cream dish wax cools down take the wick pin and poke a hole into the wax
- Have enough of the soy paraffin wax for the scoop, blackberries and the soda
- Melt the soy paraffin wax mix and pour it into the blackberry mold
- Wait for the berries to cool. Take them out and place them into the ice cream scoop silicone mold. I chose to keep the scoop wax plain and the blackberry wax purple
- Pour the scoop wax over the blackberries in the mold
- Attaching the wick to the silicone mold – Take your wick pin and place it in the center of the scoop. Secure it between 2 bamboo skewers and pour the wax
- The rest of the wax I colored mocha for the soda
- De-mold the ice cream dish and ice cream scoop
- Pour the soda wax into the ice cream dish. Wait for it to cool then when it is still warm place the scoop on top
You can decorate it with gummy bears, sprinkles, gummy worms or any other favorite ice cream topper.
Get prepared for summer fun. You can make your ice cream soda as plain or as funky as you want to. When you sell your candles set up your booth like an ice cream parlor.
Here are some ice cream soda candle decorative suggestions. Add cool whip wax and a cherry to the top, sprinkle some wax gummy bears or worms, cut up some colored wax for a sprinkle effect, add a wax straw or wax spoon. The possibilities are endless.
Many Blessings,
P.S. I would enjoy seeing some of your ice cream soda candle fun. Send me your pictures.
