My Roving

rovingI want to change the setting on this blog, but it takes me about 4 hours to accomplish that.  So they are still the same boring blue.  Sorry about that.  Maybe I will work on that this weekend.

The weather is still beautiful here.

I have taken a picture of my 1 lb. of roving.  It is beautiful.   I have never worked with cooperworth, but I feel it is a lot easier than merino.   I can get the size of the yarn exactly the way I want and the yarn is more consistent.

rooster

I know this is not a picture of 1 lb. of roving, but I was taking pictures today of the animals and I took one of our free roaming rooster.  Isn’t he a handsome boy!

Today I received 1 lb. of roving from a lady at, Ossiana’s,  my youngest daughter’s school.  It is so pretty.  I used a drop spool spindle and cannot work it very well.  I am getting better as I practice.  It would be great to have a wheel, but they are a bit out of my price range.  I am hoping to tackle some of it today.

I enjoy spinning and knitting with natural fibers, raising chickens, horses.  Basically the whole gamut of what small farming entails.  I would enjoy adding sheep to my list or goats.  That would be a bit difficult because we live on one acre and our 2 horses take up a majority of our 1 acre.  I do know that large animal wise we have our limit, but I do not consider sheep a large animal.  We will see.

I know the kids would enjoy it.  I have been considering possibly raising angora rabbits.  I used to raise them awhile ago, but I got out of it.  That maybe the better alternative to sheep.

The picture here is one of our roosters that we aquired from our friend.
